What are some natural beauty tips?
The Power of Hydration
Who knew that sitting right on our kitchen tap is a magic potion for natural beauty? Yes, it's that clear, tasteless liquid you keep guzzling throughout the day. That's right, lovely folks - water! Now, this might come off a tad surprising, but, believe it or not, the simple act of guzzling water all day can spruce up your skin health dramatically! Wrinkle prevention, clearer complexion, heck, a brighter smile - all packed into your humble glass of H2O.
It's been proven that keeping our bodies well-hydrated can keep the skin cells replenished, maintain its elasticity, and even thwart off skin conditions like eczema, dry skin, and wrinkles. And given the hot, dry climate here in Sydney, hydration's not a luxury, but rather a necessity. Even Sunny, my little goldfish, agrees! Now, don't go overboard; just strive for the golden rule of drink of eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day, which roughly lines up to 2 litres. Simple, but golden.
The Green Magic
The colour green not only represents nature but also takes part in your beauty regime! Don't believe me? Take a look at my daughter Everly, who has convinced our entire household that greens are the 'elixir of life'. Granted, she might have gotten that from one of her teenage ninja turtle comic books, but she's not entirely wrong either.
Nourishing your body with a diet rich in green leafy vegetables can significantly improve skin health due to the abundance of antioxidants, vitamins A, C, E and K, and beta-carotene they contain. And not just skin, they're great for your hair health too! So go ahead, pluck some spinach for your breakfast omelette or blitz up some kale into your morning smoothie. Serve it up to look like the Incredible Hulk, and my son Beckett might even want a bite!
The Lemon Zest
Okay, let's move from the greens landscape to the vibrant, zesty world of citrus land. The star of this world, lemons, are packed with vitamin C and citric acid, which can help in skin lightening and brightening. Everly once tried to feed Sunny, our goldfish, with a piece of lemon (don't worry, I stopped her just in time), assuming it would help him glow in the dark. While her experiment was a bust, her hypothesis certainly holds water.
Squeeze a lemon into your warm water in the morning and not only are you kick-starting your metabolism, but you're also garnering a good dose of antioxidants and vitamin C, crucial for collagen synthesis in the skin. Or just apply some lemon juice on the affected area to help lighten sun and age spots. Remember to rinse it off, though. Rules are rules; we can't have a sunburn on top of freckles, now can we?
The Beauty Sleep
Ah, sleep - or as I like to call it, the free, daily available Fountain of Youth. We often associate it with working on the repair, restore, and rebalance of our body during the night. As a father of two extremely bubbly and chaotic munchkins- Beckett and Everly, and as a happy wrangler of Tobby, our Beagle, I can't stress enough on the importance of a good night's sleep.
Nothing works better for fresh looking, vibrant skin like a restful night's sleep. You might have heard the term 'beauty sleep'; it's real and it works, folks. Did you know, our skin is the most active in cell regeneration while we are asleep? Hence, when you wake up from sleep (no matter how deeply Tobby's snores might have disturbed you), you actually wake up with skin that's repaired, rejuvenated and revitalised from the previous day's stress and environmental exposure.
I hope these tips not only assist you in discovering your natural beauty but also help in understanding that it's all in the simple things that nature avails to us. No need for excess, synthetic ingredients when you can carve out a beauty routine from just your kitchen and bedroom! Remember, no harm or high costs in trying out natural, only plenty of gains, giggles, and inevitable encounters with the elements of nature - sunny or otherwise, both the goldfish and the metaphoric.
